About Nicole McGrew

Nicole is an advocate, social entrepreneur and master gardener with twenty years of experience spanning the public and private sectors. She has advised burgeoning entrepreneurs on sustainable business practices and is a frequent public speaker on sustainability, gardening and community engagement.

In 2018, Nicole founded Threadleaf, the first brick and mortar boutique focused exclusively on sustainable fashion in Alexandria, VA. Prior to that, Nicole served as the Deputy General Counsel for the White House Office of National Drug Control Policy during the Obama Administration. Earlier in her career, Nicole practiced law as an Assistant General Counsel in the DOJ’s Office of Justice Programs and in private practice. 

Nicole volunteers her time as a board member and advisor to several organizations including the Arcadia Center for Sustainable Food & Agriculture, the Visit Alexandria Board of Governors and Move2Learn. She was the 2023 Board Chair of the Alexandria Chamber of Commerce and serves on its Executive Committee. Nicole is also a Certified Master Gardener and a member of Master Gardeners of Northern Virginia.
